Sunlit road into the mist.

Sunlit road into the mist.

Sunrays over the bike lane.
Sunrays over the bike lane.

This shot was made in 2011 when I suddenly saw some sunrays forming through the trees.

This picture was shot near where I live in Holland back in 2011 on the same trip where I took this photograph that was discussed in an earlier blog. Right in front of my appartment, there is this big meadow over which on some days a beautiful inversion layer is draped.
On that specific morning, there was this great sunset and the layer of mist and I always had a shot in mind that I wanted to take of the mist visualizing rays of the sun through the woods. Well, this time, not a real woodland (a road…) but the effect was there.

On that trip I was actually trying to create some timelapse video of the mist in the meadows. So I had all my camera gear with me and suddenly saw these rays of light coming through the trees. So I grabbed my camera (actually, back in 2011, I still did not have a DSLR and borrowed the one of my girlfriend… Thank you!!) and tried to get the situation on film (well, actually on SD card :-)). In these moments, you have gotta be quick, because these moments fade in a second. In 2011, I also had no real clue of all the settings on the camera. I do not know why, but I had put the camera in the exposureprogram “Portrait” and having an ISO of 100, the camera decided that 1/60th of a second with an Fnumber of 4.50 would be ideal for the shot.

In 2011, I did not do anything in post (also not shooting in RAW) so the picture was made on the spot, without any fancy settings, any gear nor any post production. That made this shot a great impulsive photo!
