Thunder and lightning

This picture was shot [again] from my appartment in The Hague. In the middle of the night at 04:30 when a lightning show passed my window in 2014. That night was crazy with thunder and lightning! I already made this shot from an earlier blogpost in that same night (at 01:00)
So I still had my camera ready at the window from the preceding shoot with the 50 mm lens on it. This time I tried making an educated guess where the lightning would be and set the timer on 7 seconds. With an ISO of 100 and an F-number of 6.3, the above result was captured. The reason why I had set the F-number on 6.3 was merely based on the shutterspeed and the ISO, however I am still trying to figure out what the best F-number is for each situation. For this case, I did not want to go too high, because of the amount of light I needed. However I also did not want to go too low because of the focus depth then.
The camera setting was on full manual; a setting that I was trying to experiment with as a beginning photographer in 2014. In post I did a bit of cropping and levelling. No other filters or anything. The picture was made on the spot, without any fancy settings, with a tripod and almost no post production. That made this shot a great impulsive photo!
