Abstract detail of a roof

Roof support structure of The Hague Central Station.

This picture was shot in November 2015 at the Central Station of The Hague, The Netherlands. It is an old station, but they recently added a big glass roofing over the station. That glass roofing is quite impressive but is only superficial… If you ask me, the station still looks like it is constantly in renovation.

The glass roof though is very impressive and consists of triangular roof plates over an area of 120 by 100 meters. The glass panels are supported by steel beams and a steel construction all the way to the ground and glass side and front walls. The glass panels and steel support beams make it a very abstract sight, perfectly for some abstract photography.

What struck me most was just a detail of the roof where four glass panels come together and the steel beams form an X. So I pointed my camera straight up. The camera was set on Aperture priority and with an Fnumber of 11 and ISO of 400, the camera set the exposure to 1/60th of a second. The exposure time is quite long, but I did not need a tripod for this; I stayed above the thumbrule of 1/focallength with my 50 mm lens.
I did some cropping, levelling and straightening to get the beams absolutely straight and the midpoint centered. So, the picture was made on the spot, without any fancy settings but with just a bit of post processing. That made this shot a great impulsive photo!
