Long exposure fair shot

Great long exposure shot , made in 2014 at the fair in Bathmen, The Netehrlands.

This picture was shot at the fair in Bathmen, The Netherlands in September 2014. During the day and thus in sunlight, I made some shots of the fair, however when I saw the pictures at home, I was not happy with the shots. There was no movement in them. And that is the essence of a fair actually. Consequently I returned that evening to make some fantastic movement shots of the different rides. One of those, I already discussed in a previous blog.

That night I made several shots, all with the tripod and a remote trigger. It was an experiment for me, not having done this before. The result is quite nice and these kind of shots are really great to look at for me at least. I remember that I was standing there in the middle of the crowd and was given some awkward looks. I tried not to have anybody in the shots themselves, or at least not recognizable. However, other people do not know that you use long exposures and are a little bit unease when they see a camera. At least, that was the vibe I sensed at the moment.

When I experimented with the settings, I found out that a timeframe of 2.5 seconds worked best. This lead me to an F-number of 8 for this shot at an ISO of 100. In post-processing, I only cropped the image a little bit. That was because some people were in the shot and I did not like that. Because I experimented a lot with the settings with this shot, being a whole new territory for me, I placed the shot in experimental. It turned out to be a great semi-impulsive photo!
