Train slicing through the fog

Foggy train
Foggy train

Trainride during sunrise through the fog.

This picture was shot already in 2011 during a morning photography session. There was some fog over the meadows and the sun rose through the trees when I went home at that moment. During the bikeride home, I passed alongside the traintrack between The Hague and Leiden, one of the busiest parts of the trainsystem in The Netherlands. The yellow train was slicing through the groundfog while the sun was trying to evaporate the groundfog. Great atmosphere!

Back in 2011 I did not have my own camera yet so I borrowed the one of my wife. The morning was already great but this shot just made my day! I commute daily on this track and it was nice to capture it from this side once. Back then I had no real knowledge of these camera’s and had put it on Landscape mode. Afterall, I was trying to photograph the landscape 🙂
The ISO was set on 100 (I always put that on the lowest settings though) and the camera decided to put the shutterspeed on 1/160th of a second. I am glad that the train was not going any faster because with 1/160th of a second, fast moving objects are hard to capture. Anyway, the camera also decided to put the Fnumber on 9 and with a focallength of 25 mm, this was the result. In post I did nothing to the photo itself. No other filters or anything. The picture was made on the spot, without any fancy settings, any gear nor any post production. That made this shot a great impulsive photo!
