Cloudy sunset with rainbow, shot from my window at home.

This picture was shot from my house on a September evening in 2015. The apartment that I have has an unobstructed view for several miles and this gives great opportunities to shoot for sunrises, sunsets and all kinds of weather phenomena happening just on my doorstep.

That night, some very dense cloud formations were formed which gave the evening light this eerie feeling. As there was also some rain in the air and having the sunset coming from my back, this gave an opportunity for a rainbow to form, just in my view. I therefore set up my camera and waited for the right moment. Sometimes, the opportunities to take a beautiful picture is right at your doorstep!
Back in 2015, I was still in aperture mode, moving my way into manual mode. So, the camera did some of my settings automatically 🙂 And back then, I still had the view that having a low aperture would lead to the best photos. However, I now know that this is also not always truth. Photography is a real try-to-learn hobby 🙂

Well, I did but my camera on an F-value of 4. With an ISO of 100, that lead to a fast shutter speed of just 1/1000th of a second. For the lens, I used my 10-22 mm and used it at 13 mm to make sure I had not the most chance of deformation happening at the lowest focal length.
In post, I did play a little bit with the highlights and the low lights. And the result was quite powerful with those highlights on the cloud, the dark sky behind it and the colors due to the grass and the rainbow. It turned out to be a great impulsive photo!
